Here at Hillside High School, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We do lots of events to support the Hispanic communities such as dance performances from our dance team, festivals, food banquets, and many more fun activities. Teachers Mr. Nelson Giraldo Sanguino and Mrs. Angelica Guerra Atencio normally lead our events and performances. On October 10th, we had a celebration event after school that included eating Hispanic foods, dance tutorials, and a history of Hispanic culture.
A lot of students participate in these events because they want to know more about their peers. Some people are not used to what they might eat so we have these banquets to allow students to expand their knowledge on different types of foods. We also want to teach students about the history of different types of music that might not be heard as often.

“We just want to teach students about our culture in a productive and fun way. Who just wants to read on it? When you can learn, dance and eat free food all at the same time!”

Sophomore Mary Grier quote: “A lot of people might not find learning about other people’s culture as fun, having another culture to look upon is trying something new which in some cases is needed.”
October 13th is the big show for Hispanic Heritage Month.
